These are some of the major public outreach activities at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  There are many more but in good Christian humility they are motivated by service.  Publicity is not part of these ministries.

Coffee and a Prayer

Got coffee? Well, we do—at least on Wednesday mornings between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. when our church professional staff and volunteers are ready and waiting in the parking lot to serve up a free cup of hot coffee, tea or even a Coke.  Along with the dose of caffeine is an opportunity to pray—without getting out of your car.  Some ask to pray for personal and family needs while others ask for God’s  guidance for national and world wide issues.

Rev. Timothy Anderson, Director of Parish Growth at Good Shepherd, developed this outreach program in August 2003 as a way to connect the community and church.  It began as a time for parents, especially with kids in school, and teachers to have a chance to have us pray for their students.  Those driving through are also given a leaflet with prayers on it.  Each week, a new prayer is written that parallels what is happening in the schools, community, or the world that week.  The ministry quickly broadened to include anyone who wishes to stop and pray with one of the church professional staff.

So, watch for the sheep grazing along Military and Lincoln Avenues.  If you see them, they’re waiting for “ewe” to join us for a cup!

Live Nativity

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David , a Savior and his name is Christ the Lord….”  These words from Luke 2:11 describe the scene on the campus of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church every Christmas season.

Members of the youth group participate as cast members of a Live Nativity.  They portray Mary, Joseph, shepherds, wise men and angels.  Real animals also are used in the scene including goats, donkeys and cows.

The Live Nativity scene gives Fremont area people a way to step back from the commercial aspect of the Christmas holiday and reminds them what the true meaning of the season is.  The youth involved also have the opportunity to learn more and gain a deeper sense of appreciation of the real story of Christmas.

“Good Shepherd congregation provides this live nativity as a demonstration to the community that not only do we welcome Jesus into our lives as our Savior, but we also welcome all people to be a part of our family so that they too can know Jesus better and experience His love through us.”
