Outreach

Live Nativity

Members of the youth group participate as cast members of a Live Nativity. They portray Mary, Joseph, shepherds, wise men and angels. Real animals also are used in the scene including goats, donkeys and cows.

Good Shepherd congregation provides this live nativity as a demonstration to the community that not only do we welcome Jesus into our lives as our Savior, but we also welcome all people to be a part of our family so that they too can know Jesus better and experience His love through us.

Adult Choir

We welcome them back and look forward to hearing them in worship services beginning this month. Many thanks to those who devote their time to this important ministry! The choir meets in the worship area on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:15 p.m. under the leadership of Barb Frey and Karen Johnson. We also thank these two ladies for continuing another year of faithful service as Choir Director and Accompanist. This month, the choir will begin working on anthems for upcoming special worship times in the Church Year…Reformation, All Saints’ Day, Thanksgiving. Though it hardly seems possible, it won’t be long until they will begin preparation of music for the Advent and Christmas seasons!! If the Lord has blessed you with a love of singing and you have been unable to share that gift in previous years, is THIS the year He is calling you to serve Him with that gift? If you are unable to commit to coming every week, please come when you can. Barb and Karen are very respectful of everyone’s time/schedule and make sure rehearsals are over within an hour. We are very much in need of additional voices!! Please consider joining us next Wednesday and find out if this ministry is for you. Answers to some recent questions…1) Do I have to audition? (No!); 2) Will I have to sing a solo? (Not unless you want to.); 3) If I decide it’s not for me--may I simply quit? (Yes—but we hope you’ll have so much fun that you won’t want to!). Please consider joining us this coming Wednesday night. It is a wonderful way to combine sharing your love of singing with some good fellowship and fun mixed in. We know that for some people, “travel” is a part of the job. DON’T let that keep you from singing!! If your schedule does not allow you to join us EVERY week, come as often as you can. PRAY ABOUT IT…is the Lord calling you to use your gift for His glory?

Special Music

The Vision Team for Worship and Music has been concentrating on having more special music incorporated into our worship services in the form of solo and/or ensemble music—vocal or instrumental. A number of you have expressed appreciation for this addition and we encourage anyone with a musical gift to consider sharing it during this new church year. SANDY SUKSTORF is our “Special Music Coordinator”. There is a SIGN-UP SHEET on the bulletin board adjacent to the music area. If you are willing to provide special music, add your name to that list and Sandy will contact you to choose a date. We encourage our young people to also join in this ministry.

Worship Leaders

If you ordinarily worship at our 11:00 service you have no doubt noticed the cluster of people standing to your right over in the music area. These faithful folks are members of our worship team/worship choir”. With this new church season, we would like very much to have some additional singers join us in this ministry. You might wonder, “What’s the difference between the two?” Those who serve on a “Worship Team” sing at a microphone. Those who wish to sing without a microphone make up the “worship choir” and provide more sound and support the worship team by their presence. The Pastors and musicians count on this group of people to be there and help lead the congregational singing during worship. Worship choir is an ideal spot for people who enjoy singing but are: a] not comfortable standing at a microphone; b] do not want to be tied to a certain date for serving; c] are willing to “help” but don’t want to “lead”; d] enjoy being ‘spontaneous’; e] ALL OF THE ABOVE! At one time, we had four worship teams that rotated leading the service once a month. We would like to get back to having more than one team of worship leaders/choir members available to sing. At this time, we depend upon a few very faithful singers who serve almost every week, but they are anxious for some reinforcements. Our musicians and current team members have been praying that the Lord would raise up willing singers in this new worship year to join us in vital and important ministry. Will YOU be one of the people He uses as part of His answer to our prayers? Pray about it! MIDLAND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS…is this a ministry God has gifted you to do? We would love to have you join us! Anyone interested in finding out more about this ministry…please come up to the “music wall” any Sunday before/after the 11:00 service and talk to one of us. If you have any questions, please contact Barb Gierke (727-6207), Barb Frey (721-3253), or Karen Johnson (721-7937). One of them is available at each weekend service and all three can usually be found following the 11:00 worship service.
